Lenovo Miix 3 Windows 8.1 Tablet

 

Lenovo has launched the Miix 3 tablet running Windows 8.1 in India, priced at Rs. 21,999.

The new tablet from Lenovo is now available to buy from the company's official The Do Store and comes bundled with a detachable keyboard. The Lenovo Miix 3 tablet also comes with one-year subscription to Office 365.

The Miix 3 tablet features a 10.1-inch IPS touchscreen offering a screen resolution of 1920x1200 pixels. It is powered by an Intel Atom Processor Z3735F (unspecified clock speed - reference base clock 1.33GHz, burst frequency up to 1.83GHz, 4 cores, 4 threads), which Lenovo touts has been used for the first time in its tablet lineup.

The tablet comes with 2GB of RAM and includes 32GB (eMMC) of inbuilt storage, which is further expandable via microSD card (up to 64GB). Connectivity options on the device include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, Mini HDMI, and Micro-USB. The company has not revealed the battery capacity on the Miix 3 tablet; though mentions a battery life of up to 7 hours. The Lenovo Miix 3 tablet sports a 2-megapixel front camera.

Dell Venue 7

Look and feel

This is a pretty slick-looking tablet. Its black plastic and rubber finish is definitely less premium than that of #Apple's iPad mini lineup, but at least you don't require a protective case. The first thing you'll notice is the bold concentric circle pattern on the back. It looks good and helps you grip the body even when using it with one hand - the only minor drawback is that particles of dust and lint tend to get trapped in the grooves.

#Android navigation buttons are all on-screen. The power button and headset socket are on top, with the Micro-USB port and volume buttons on the upper left. A fairly prominent speaker grille is on the bottom. The Micro-SIM and microSD card slots are hidden under a neat rubber flap on the right edge.

Specifications and software

#Dell has continued using Intel's Atom CPUs in its tablets, and the new Venue 7 is powered by an Atom Z3460, which is a dual-core, 64-bit processor running at speeds between 1.06GHz and 1.60GHz.

The screen still has a resolution of 800x1280, though part of it will almost always be occupied by a band for the soft navigation buttons. This isn't the sharpest screen around, but it's good enough for reading books, surfing the Web, playing games and watching videos on. The primary camera has a 5-megapixel sensor and no flash, while the one in front only has a 1-megapixel sensor.

There's 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage space. MicroSD cards of up to 64GB are supported. The Dell Venue 7 (2014) comes with Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 4.0. 4G LTE is not supported on the bands used in India, so you're limited to 3G speeds. The battery is rated at 4,550mAh.

Performance

The Dell Venue 7 (2014) performed quite well in all our benchmarks and we noticed a massive leap in performance between last year's model and this one. The Quadrant score jumped from 7,698 to 10,338 and the AnTuTu score from 19,094 to 30,429 (though these scores aren't entirely comparable as AnTuTu has been updated since then). The frame rate in GFXBench improved from 13fps to a very solid 32fps, and 3DMark's Ice Storm Extreme rose from 3,643 to 8,935. SunSpider's score improved slightly from 986ms to 958.1ms. It seems that Intel's latest generation of Atom processors shows much greater improvement in the graphics subsystem than the CPU.

The Google Nexus 9 tablet, made by HTC, was officially announced on October 15, 2014 and went up for pre-order the next day in the US and a few days day later it could be pre-ordered at retailers like Best Buy.  Rogers now has the new LTE-enabled Nexus 9 in stock with pricing set at $669.99.  It is also in the Google Play Store for $669 – however, it is currently showing no inventory.  Now you can enjoy the power of 64-bit processing, Android 5.0 Lollipop and Rogers’ extensive 4G LTE coverage.

The Google Nexus 9 is a great tablet, made for Google by HTC.  It retains the soft rubber-grip backing we have come to love on Nexus tablets.  It comes with a 9-inch (okay 8.9-inch) QXGA IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels and 288 pixels-per-inch (PPI).  Its processor is a Nvidia Tegra K1 64-bit dual-core clocked at 2.3GHz.  The Nexus 9 comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory  and there is no means for expansion.

The camera is a respectable – for a tablet – 8MP with autofocus and an LED flash – unheard of in a tablet.  It also sports a 1.6MP front-facing camera (FFC) for social media selfies and the occasional video chat.  It comes with a modest 6700mAh battery ,Dual-Band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, is NFC capable, and a microUSB port for charging and data transfer.

HP 7 VoiceTab

 

HP seems to be focusing on the voice-calling tablet market with its VoiceTab line of products.HP's newest voice-calling Android tablet, the HP 7 VoiceTab, is a 7-inch tablet as its name suggests. You won't need to break a bank to purchase one since it costs less than Rs. 10,000. 

Look :- 

The HP 7 VoiceTab looks and feels like a sturdy device, which is great since the Slate6 VoiceTab had poor build quality. Made entirely of plastic, the HP 7 VoiceTab is quite chunky at 10.2mm thick and 305g in weight. Even so, the bezels are fairly thin, making the HP 7 VoiceTab feel more compact than some other 7-inch tablets we've used in the past.

The power button and volume rocker are on the right edge of the tablet. These buttons have decent travel. On the bottom is the standard Micro-USB charging port and on the top lies the 3.5mm audio jack. HP decided to go with onscreen buttons for navigating through the operating system. Above the 6.95-inch screen are the earpiece, front camera and ambient light sensor.  

The 6.95-inch display has a resolution of 600x1024, which translates to a low 170ppi density. Images and text look pixellated, colours are washed out, and viewing angles are completely off.

The HP 7 VoiceTab uses a quad-core Mediatek MT8382 SoC which has four 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 CPU cores and a Mali-400MP2 GPU. There is 1GB of RAM available for applications and services. HP provides 8GB of internal storage space but one can extend this by up to 32GB using a microSD card. The tablet also supports USB On-the-Go.
It has a 5-megapixel primary camera with flash, and a VGA front camera. The tablet can connect to 3G networks, and other wireless connectivity options include Bluetooth v4.0 and Wi-Fi b/g/n. It has a non-removable 3000mAh battery inside providing the juice. 

Performance
 
The HP 7 VoiceTab is a fairly decent performer in daily usage. We didn't notice any freezes or stutters when using the device, though heavy games didn't work well.The HP 7 VoiceTab scored 7fps in GFXBench and 3036 in the 3DMark Ice Storm test. We ran AnTuTu and Quadrant as well, in which the device scored 17,768 and 6,578 points respectively. 

 

 

Nexus 7 3G Models

Google has finally published the long-awaited factory images of Android 5.0.2 Lollipop for the cellular variants of the Asus Google Nexus 7 (2012 and 2013) tablets.

While there is no information for over-the-air (OTA) update as yet, users can manually download and flash the zip update file for the Nexus 7 (2012) 3G and Nexus 7 (2013) 3G from Google's Nexus Factory Images page.

To remind you, Google had only updated the Nexus 7 Wi-Fi models, apart from the Nexus smartphones, ever since the Android 5.0 Lollipop release in October 2014.

The company hadn't even provided the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Nexus 7 cellular models, and after the Android 4.4.4 KitKat build from the middle of last year, the company has now jumped straight to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop - which comes with build number LRX22G, and is dated October 22. The update also includes driver binaries, which may be the reason for the delay, according to Android Police.

 Google had released the Android 5.0.2 factory image for Wi-Fi only Nexus 7 (2012), and in January for the Nexus 7 (2013) Wi-Fi and Nexus 10 tablets.

The update was incremental and its official changelog provided by Google for the LRX22C build to LRX22G build of the Nexus 7 (2012 and 2013) tablets, essentially focussed on performance, apart from dealing with issues related to tune delivery, batching of alarms, storage, boot time and more.

 

Amazon Fire HD 6 Tablet

 

Amazon announced the Kindle Fire HD 6 back in September and released them about two weeks later. The HD 6 was announced alongside updated versions of the Fire HDX 8.9 and the Fire HD 7. The Fire HD 6 is new to the Kindle lineup. It’s a mid-range tablet with a low-end price. It’s only $99 and comes with 8GB of internal storage, 1GB of RAM, and a 6-inch IPS LCD display.  

Hardware

The hardware on the HD 6 is pretty straightforward. It’s powered by an ARM Cortex-A15 quad-core processor clocked at 1.21GHz, 1GB of RAM, and comes with either 8GB or 16GB of internal storage. The tablet has a 2-megapixel camera on the back, although it’s not good for much. The IPS LCD display has a 1280 x 800 resolution, with a 252 ppi pixel density. The display isn’t bad, but it’s not great. It’s packing 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a gyroscope, and an accelerometer. The HD 6 comes in five colors: Black, White, Cobalt, Magenta, and Citron. Everything with the HD 6 is about value. For $99, these specs are not too shabby.

Performance

With low-end specs, how does the Amazon Fire HD 6 perform? Surprisingly well. I had no issues downloading and watching movies, surfing the internet using Amazon’s Silk browser, reading books, and using Twitter. For day-to-day use, the HD 6 is perfectly fine. Switching between apps was smooth. I didn’t notice very many hiccups at all. The display resolution is just a little higher than 720p, so watching HD video was clear and sharp. On a 6-inch device, the difference between 720p and 1080p is not very noticeable, especially when you’re streaming video from Amazon Instant Video or Netflix.
  
Storage

Internal storage was an issue with the 8GB variant that I tested. After the OS and pre-loaded apps, you’re left with around 5GB of usable storage space. It doesn’t take long to fill that up. A few movies, a couple of games, and some books and apps, and that storage space is gone. Amazon is banking on you using cloud storage to keep your movies and photos off of the tablet. If you don’t opt for the 16GB of the Fire HD 6, expect to run out in short order.

Camera

The HD 6 has a 2-megapixel rear-facing camera and a VGA front-facing camera. The old saying that the best camera is the one you have doesn’t really apply here. You shouldn’t expect to get much in the way of quality shots from either camera.

LG G Pad 10.1

 

The LG G Pad started out as a mid range 8-inch tablet, and it did fairly well so it should have been no surprise to see that LG would enter the market with newer models the following year. This year they released a line up of three brand new tablets as part of the G Pad line, and we’ve been using the 10.1-inch G Pad for the past couple weeks.The resolution on the G Pad 10.1 is less than other tablets in the same price range,(the G Pad 10.1 will cost $211.99 through Best Buy’s website)the battery inside is an 8000mA.

Hardware

The LG G Pad 10.1 is nothing to write home about, however that doesn’t mean the hardware feels cheap or undeserving of attention. It isn’t the tablet you want to be looking at if you’re looking for top notch hardware that will outperform most other tablets. It is a great option though for someone looking to get a decent mid-range tablet at a lower cost. The tablet feels pretty solid and performs most tasks well enough. For the size, the G Pad 10.1 was comfortable to hold for even a couple hours at a time playing games, and I was frequently using it to play for at least 3 hours plus.

Look and feel :-

The most unique thing about the Canvas Tab P666 is its design. The device itself is fairly slim at 7.9mm, but its weight and blocky shape aren't great in terms of grip and comfort. There are two metal strips running down each side, which curve around the top and bottom corners. The rounded ends of each strip appear to be secured with rivets, though these might also be purely cosmetic in purpose. While this might have looked good if fabricated well, we found that the strips and rivets were not flush with the body, and were therefore prone to getting snagged on clothes and bags.

Features :-

The Tablet sports an 8-Inch IPS Display with 1280 x 800 Pixels WXGA Resolution. Under the hood is a 1.2GHz Dual Core Intel Atom Z2520 Processor, PowerVR SGX544 GPU and 1GB RAM. The Slate has 8GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 32GB using MicroSD card. It has a single Micro SIM Slot for 3G voice calling as well.

The Canvas Tab P666 specs also include a 2 mega pixel front fixed focus camera for video calling. The back side has a 5 Mega Pixel shooter with auto focus and 1080p video recording capabilities. The Tablet runs on
Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat OS and has a 4400 mAh battery inside that easily gives up to 15 Hours of talk time.
In terms of connectivity. the Tablet supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth V4.0, MicroUSB V2.0, A-GPS, FM Radio, 3.5mm Audio Jack.

Performance :-

Things were not terribly positive on the performance front either. We encountered stuttering when swiping through apps such as Google Play, and apps took a bit longer than usual to open and close. Our benchmark numbers, while not the worst we've ever seen, definitely did not impress us. AnTuTu and Quadrant gave us scores of 17,499 and 6,909 respectively, which are both just about at par with today's entry-level smartphones. Graphics performance was not satisfactory -we managed only 8.9fps in GFXbench and 5,039 in the basic 3DMark Ice Storm test.

Dell has announced version of Venue 11 Pro 7000 Series tablet, which is the introduced Intel Core M processor. The tablet will hit the US shelves starting November 11 with a price tag of $699.99.

Running Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-Bit, the tablet features a 10.8-inch TFT display with full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) resolution. It is powered by a 2GHz dual-core Intel Core M 5Y10a processor (4MB L3 Cache, 2 cores, 4 threads, 800MHz base clock, up to 2GHz on Turbo). The Venue 11 Pro 7000 will also be available in few configuration options including 64GB, 128GB and 256GB storage, apart from 4GB or 8GB of DDR3 RAM. It features a microSD card  slot.

The Dell Venue 11 Pro 7000 features an features an 8-megapixel rear autofocus camera, and a 2 megapixel front-facing camera, both with 1080p video recording. Sensors onboard include gyroscope, accelerometer, and proximity sensor.

Dell last month launched refreshed versions of its Venue 7 and Venue 8 Android tablets in India.

The Dell Venue 7 (Wi-Fi only) costs Rs. 11,999, while the 3G + voice-calling variant has been priced at Rs. 14,999. The Venue 8 (Wi-Fi only) comes at Rs. 15,999 and the 3G + voice-calling at Rs. 18,999. Dell has also listed a new version of the Dell Venue 8 (Wi-Fi) tablet that comes with 2GB of RAM and has been priced at Rs. 12,999.

Backed by a 38Whr Li-ion battery, the tablet will also be available in Wi-Fi only and LTE variants. The connectivity options included on the device are Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 3.0, Micro-HDMI, Intel WiDi, Miracast, 3G and 4G LTE.

HP on Tuesday launched a range of tablets powered by Android and Windows operating systems and a 2-in-1 device.

The company in a statement announced the launch of three new Android-based tablets namely HP Pro Slate 12, HP Pro Slate 8 , and HP Pro Slate 10 EE, and also revealed new Windows-based tablets, the HP Pro Tablet 10 EE (Windows) and HP Pro Tablet 408 G1.
The HP ElitePad 1000 G2 vertical solutions including HP ElitePad 1000 G2 Healthcare and HP ElitePad 1000 G2 Rugged tablets were also announced, but without detailed specifications. Additionally, a 2-in-1 or convertible Windows laptop-tablet hybrid, the HP Elite x2 1011 G1, was also announced.

According to HP, the Pro Slate 8 16GB model is priced at $449, and the 32GB model at $469. The HP Pro Slate 12 , only available in a 32GB model, has been priced at $569. The HP Pro Slate 10 EE, on the other hand, is now available at a starting price of $279.

The Windows-based HP Pro Tablet 10 EE is also available now starting at $299 for education customers and for other customers at $349; the Pro Tablet 408 G1 at $299, and HP Elite x2 1011 G1 2-in-1 Windows device at a starting price of $899. The HP ElitePad 1000 G2 Healthcare Tablet is priced at $1,499 and is now available to buy. The HP ElitePad 1000 G2 Rugged Tablet, on the other hand, is expected to be available in February at a starting price of $1,599.

The two new HP Android Slate tablets, the Pro Slate 8 and Pro Slate 12 feature a 7.86-inch full-HD QXGA (2048x1536 pixels) display and 12.3-inch (1600x1200 pixels) display respectively.
Both the tablets run Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box and are powered by 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoCs coupled with 2GB of RAM. Both tablets offer expandable storage via microSD card (up to 32GB).

 

Windows RT Update 

 

Microsoft is reportedly working on a Windows 10 update for the versions of its Surface tablet that run Windows RT, however the update will only bring some of the functionality of Windows 10.

After the Windows 10 briefing on Wednesday, it was assumed that Windows RT is pretty much dead, because Microsoft announced that the new Windows 10 OS is not for Windows RT-based Surface tablets. Not just that, the Surface 2 tablet on Microsoft official store in the US went out-of-stock the next day, giving more fire to rumours. But a report from Cnet on Wednesday suggests that there is still an update in the pipeline.

During Q&A at the Next Chapter event the company had only said that it is working on an update for Windows RT as well." But later in a statement to Cnet, Microsoft noted that "Surface Pro 3 will update to Windows 10. We are working on an update for Surface, which will have some of the functionality of Windows 10. More information to come. Microsoft declined to comment further.

 

Nokia N1

The next flash sale for the Nokia N1 is on January 22, and there is no word yet on how many units will go on sale. Nokia announced the N1, its first Android tablet, back in November with a suggested retail price of $249 (roughly Rs. 15,400).



The tablet is initially only available in China, with Foxconn licensed to manufacture, distribute, and sell it. It has been priced at CNY 1,599 (Rs. 16,000 approximately), and is expected to reach other markets, starting with Europe, soon.



The Nokia N1 features a 7.9-inch (2048x1536 pixel) IPS LED-backlit display protected by Gorilla Glass 3, and is powered by a 64-bit 2.3GHz Intel Atom Z3580 processor (4 cores,
4 threads) coupled with a PowerVR G6430 GPU and 2GB of LPDDR3 (800MHz) RAM. It sports 32GB of inbuilt storage (non-expandable).





The tablet bears an 8-megapixel rear autofocus camera with 1080p video recording, and a 5-megapixel fixed focus camera. Connectivity options on the Nokia N1 include
Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/n/ac with MIMO, Bluetooth 4.0, Micro-USB with reversible Type-C connector, and a 3.5mm audio jack.
The Nokia N1 tablet weighs in at 318 grams, and measures 200.7x138.6x6.9mm. Also onboard are 0.5W stereo speakers, and a 5300mAh battery. For sensors, it sports a 6-axis gyroscope and an accelerometer.
